White pine needles, frozen streams, and snowflakes accompanying you as you stroll along the lakes… Snow has covered Plitvice Lakes with a beautiful white blanket, and it’s up to you to explore all the charms that Lika has to offer during this season. It’s time for winter magic at Plitvice!
Read on to discover what you can explore and how to make the most of a snowy January weekend.

Plitvice Lakes is a destination that gains a new, irresistible charm with every season. Covered in snow, it becomes a place full of fun, admiration, and pure enjoyment when you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family.
Croatia’s oldest national park offers unforgettable sights in winter, when its waterfalls and cascades (as many as 90!) transform into icy sculptures, taking visitors into a true winter wonderland with their impressive beauty.
Explore the park via forest trails and pathways while fresh snow softly crunches beneath your boots, or choose a panoramic boat ride as snowflakes fall onto the deep blue lakes around you, whichever route you take, the views are sure to leave you speechless!

Although the Upper Lakes are not always open to visitors during winter, the park’s most famous attraction remains accessible. The Great Waterfall, standing 78 meters tall, is partially frozen and truly a breathtaking sight. Plitvice Lakes are without a doubt one of the destinations worth visiting this month!
Skiers are, of course, more than welcome at Plitvice, along with those who prefer sledding, snowboarding, or even a good old snowball fight!
Mukinje Ski Resort opened its season as soon as the first snowflakes fell and is located just 2.5 km from Entrance 2 of the National Park. The ski resort features one ski lift that takes you to a meadow at around 700 meters above sea level, from where several slopes (approximately 400 meters long) lead down to the base. Ski equipment rental is also available, and on Fridays and Saturdays you can even enjoy organized night skiing!
Within the ski resort, there is also a restaurant where you can warm up with a cup of hot tea or enjoy a bite to eat.

While part of the animal kingdom hibernates during winter, others remain active and ready to interact. Have you ever had the chance to feed deer and does from the palm of your hand?
In winter, Deer Valley Ranch truly feels like a fairytale.
The ranch spans over 15 hectares and is located just 12 kilometers from Plitvice National Park. The hosts take care of deer, does, horses, and other beautiful animals. During guided tours, you can learn more about them, and even feed them yourself!
You can secure your tickets on the ranch’s official website.

Explore the rich nature of Plitvice in a completely different way; off-road expeditions are an experience to remember!
Are you ready to ride legendary Pinzgauer 4×4 and 6×6 vehicles along challenging Lika trails?
Plitvice Off Road is a family-run adventure that takes you to hidden corners of the stunning Plitvice landscape. You can choose from several different routes lasting between 1.5 and 4 hours (depending on the package), and during the winter months, the experience is truly exceptional.
More information about winter adventures at Plitvice in an off-road version can be found on the official Plitvice Off Road website.

For those who prefer spending time indoors, Plitvice Lakes, and Lika in general, offers numerous cultural destinations that can be explored even during winter.
To discover the natural and cultural heritage of the Lika region, visit Speleon – the Underground Heritage Centre, spanning 1,200 m² and offering fun for both adults and children. Explore fossil remains of Ice Age animals, join guided tours, and learn more about the region’s fascinating past.
In addition to Speleon, you can visit museums in nearby towns, head to the Senj City Museum, Gacka Museum in Otočac, or the Lika Museum in Gospić, which also includes the Nikola Tesla Memorial Centre.
